Distant: Hong Kong
I’ve been editing videos since 2003. But it wasn’t until 15 years later I discovered “match editing”. An editing technique that links two shots together to either maintain continuity, establish a connection, or create meaning. I thought, What would it feel like to create a run-on sentence in a video? Something that didn’t stop and felt completely seamless, like a river that just kept running until it hit the ocean.
It forced me to document and examine every small moment. The way a building looked in the sunlight, an obscure reflection in a puddle, or the color of clothes someone was wearing as the passed me in the street.
That was my experiment in Hong Kong. To create a love letter to a vibrant city, full of small brilliantly interconnected moments. Where control and chaos exist layered together like poetry come alive through its people and culture. This is that letter. Enjoy!
